Update to the Description of the Book

ancawa6

How Seven Ways to Disappear: The Book within the Book is described at the back of the book has been updated. Why? Because the way the book was initially described was confusing. I knew this when the book was first published, but at the time, during the self-publishing process, I couldn’t come up with a way to describe the book that was different than what was suggested.

When it was first released I would talk to people who read the book, and I realized that I could put people into three categories:

1.      People who understood and connected with the book

2.      People who were neutral to the book

3.      People who didn’t understand the book and therefore were left a little confused.

So, I knew I needed to at least address the way the book was described to address the group of people who didn’t understand the book. Because there were some who thought that the book was a sort of self-help book. Some thought it was a guide. When in reality – it’s simply a work of fiction. You can read here to learn more about the origins and intent of the book.

The troubling part of the description was this,

“In a unique guide based on an unpublished story about those friends, Andre Wade presents seven ways to disappear from life that include encouragement to reinvent self, withdraw int self, isolate, sleep, create invisibility, and more. While reminding others that they must live with the consequences of every decision, Wade also offers empowering suggestions on how to create a clear plan, shun a former existence, and utilize thoughts and imagination to transform into the truest versions of themselves.”

The new description of the book reads,

Seven Ways to Disappear: The Book within the Book is a fictional book that lives inside of a story about four friends in Los Angeles in the days leading up to September 11, 2001. The characters in the unpublished novel share their thoughts and ideas about the book until they are faced with the catastrophic events of 9/11 that causes them to turn to the book to decide how they will disappear.

The title of the unpublished novel is Seven Ways to Disappear hence the subtitle “the Book within the Book” to reference the smaller work of fiction you have discovered. The “book within the book” is written by a fictional author, sometime in the early 20th century, who outlines seven ways that we metaphysically, symbolically, and literally disappear from our lives.

Seven Ways to Disappear: The Book within the Book is a novelty book that’s been described as “though provoking.” It’s a conversation starting book that you leave on the coffee table and wait for a guest to ask you about it.

The book contains themes we all can relate to as it frames how we, as humans, maneuver through our lives and deal with the pain and upsets that life gives us. It’s not a self-help book, nor is it a how-to-guide, or anything of the sort.

What it is depends upon what it means to you.”

I think this will help people to understand the contents of the book and have a better way to connect with it.
